Sizing kids for shoes, particularly school shoes, is not an easy task and if you don't have time to stop into a retailer for a professional fitting it can be quite difficult.
However, ordering online makes school shoe shopping a breeze when you have an idea of their sizing.
With the average child growing from one to two shoe sizes per year, monitoring the fit of their shoes throughout the year can give you an idea of when they need a new pair.
We've complied a few of our favourite tips for measuring at home to make buying online that little bit easier!
1. Measure in the afternoon as kids' feet tend to swell throughout the day.
2. Take note of the next biggest size marker of the bigger foot on our Downloadable Measuring Sheet.
3. If you're unsure of sizing or width, take them in to be professionally fitted at one of our stockists.
4. Use current shoe sizes you have at home that fit as a guide for choosing an appropriate school shoe size.
Standard widths are different for boys and girls, and as you go up the sizes this becomes more and more important.
Junior sizes are easier to fit but if your child's foot is slightly wider then there is a D width (girl's wide/boy's standard) available in the Academy Jnr shoe.
For girls with a wider foot, we have various interchangeable male and female styles available in the D width.
For boys with a narrower foot, the B/C width styles would be preferable in youth and senior sizing.
As always, getting fitted in-store is always best but this is not always an option for us as parents.
Our sizing chart lists the CM of the insole as a guide for the length of the shoe from the heel to the furthest point of the shoe. Allow for extra room on this measurement so their foot is not squished up against the end of the shoe. Foot shape, especially in the toes, do not always align with the end point of the insole.
The chart also allows for you to find the equivalent between gender sizes by using the EU size and finding the corresponding EU size on the other gender's chart.
